Johann Ignaz Cimbal (Wagstadt, 1722–Vienna, 1795)

Johann Ignaz Cimbal was born in Silesia and studied in Vienna, from where he was invited to work in Moravia, the Czech Republic and Hungary. His works can be found in churches, palaces and museums in Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania and Hungary. His greatest and most beautiful works were created here, in the Transdanubian region that was just recovering from the Turkish occupation. Cimbal visited Veszprém exactly 250 years ago. Restoration work shows that he was much more talented than previously thought, and research suggests that more of his work may still be hidden in Veszprém.
